Dallas Desperados Tickets & Information

During the halftime interview in the Cowboys preseason game on August 12, 2000, Jerry Jones revealed to Babe Laufenberg that the AFL had granted him an expansion franchise to get started on play in 2002. The team was originally probably going to be named the "Dallas Texans", following within the footsteps of Dallas’ former AFL franchise which existed from 1990-1993. However, that same year he sold the rights with the name "Texans" for just a reported $10 million in the upstart Houston franchise. After the contest where fans voted with the team’s official website, the popular Dallas team was eventually named the Desperados. Jones appointed Cowboys special teams coach Joe Avezzano as head coach, and so on November 21, 2001 in your AFL expansion draft, they acquired their first player, lineman Aaron Hamilton.

Avezzano, together with starting quarterback Andy Kelly, led the group for a respectable 7-7 record as well as a playoff appearance while in the teams first season of play, including a 10-6 record an additional consecutive playoff berth in 2003 under new quarterback Jim Kubiak. However, Avezzano was fired within the Cowboys staff that season, and subsequently resigned as Desperados head coach when he accepted a job together with the Gambling.

Prior to when the 2004 season, Jones hired Will McClay to replace Avezzano, and McClay struggled into a 6-10 record his rookie season as coach. The c's improved to 8-7-1 below season and barely missed making the playoffs, and below the helm of quarterback/offensive coordinator Clint Dolezel, posted a 13-3 record in 2006 which made their first appearance within a AFL conference championship game, losing for the Orlando Predators. Below season saw the Desperados post an AFL record fifteen wins as well as the team appeared destined to make their first ArenaBowl appearance, but they were shocked by your Columbus Destroyers, who had entered the playoffs having a 7-9 record, with the first round. The upset is ranked by many one of the greatest in recent history. Below season saw no relief in the postseason failure because Desperados at 12-4 lost with the 8-8 The big apple Dragons in Dallas. Following on from the New Orleans VooDoo folded, the league placed the Desperados inside South Division following on from the team had spent five seasons just as one Eastern Division powerhouse.
